Jackson-Milton Schools’ Athletic Department hosted their annual “Military Appreciation Night”
at their home football game against Windham on September 5. Veterans and active military
members were invited and admitted into the game free and given a meal voucher. They were
recognized and honored during pre-game festivities. The Army National Guard were sponsors,
The Lake Milton American Legion Post 737 supplied the Honor Guard, and the Local Boy Scout
Troop did the raising of the flag.
Jackson-Milton Elementary Title 1 teacher, Bob Zanni, performed the ceremonial coin toss as he
is a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant. Beyond the district’s annual Military Appreciation
Night, Jackson-Milton Elementary School is a Purple Star school. Mr. Zanni is also the military
liaison for the Purple Star program at JMES. The Purple Star program connects JMES students
who have immediate family members currently serving in the military with Mr. Zanni (Bob) and
Dr. Holly Welch (JMES Principal and Assistant Superintendent) for monthly support
gatherings.
